Tanzania Photography Tour + Gorilla Add-On

This year, I started expanding my photography tours to places I hadn’t been before. The goal was to find more unique moments and get away from the typical photography circles. I found Tanzania. And I found the whole region incredibly interesting.

Thus, in early 2028, I’ll be leading a photography tour to Tanzania – focused on wildlife.

There will also be an optional add-on to visit the Gorillas in nearby Uganda.

The Photography Tours

The trip can actually be split into 4 possible trips:

  1. Tanzania Safari (main trip)
  2. + Gorillas and Chimpanzees
  3. + Zanzibar
  4. + Gorillas + & Zanzibar

So let me explain each trip, with a note that the Tanzania main trip is a requirement for the other smaller trips.

Tanzania Safari

This is the main trip. The primary goal of this trip is wildlife photography. We’re going to be on safari the whole time and loving life. It will be a bit of an adventure, and we’ll make some great photos and even better memories.

The itinerary looks like this:

January 13 – Head to Tarangire National Park
January 14 – Southern Lake Manyara National Park
January 15 – Northern Lake Manyara National Park

Optional Rwanda/Uganda Gorilla Add-On

Being so close to the gorillas, it makes sense to include an add-on. This is a fairly fast journey, but will maximize your time in the area. This is a “pre-tour”, so if you’d like to join it will happen before the start of the main trip.

January 08 – Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda.
January 09 – Morning exploring Kigali. Transfer to Volcanos National Park.
January 10 – Morning rare Golden Monkeys Trekking. Then transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
January 11 – Gorilla Trekking on the Uganda side at Bwindi.

Price = €3,000
Price Includes = Flight from Kigali to Arusha, gorilla trekking permits, accommodation, transfers, transport, all meals, and local guides.
Price does not include = Tips for local guides.

Optional Zanzibar Post-Trip Add-On

A lot of people see Zanzibar as a beach destination, but it’s so much more than that. It’s just an incredibly beautiful place. From Stone Town to the epic coastline, there’s lots to photograph.

And of course, after a couple hard days of safari, it’s not a bad place to relax either.

January 22 – Fly to Zanzibar
January 23 – Based in Jambiani Beach Area
January 24 – Based in Jambiani Beach Area
January 25 – Based in Stone Town
January 26 – Stone Town and area
January 27 – Tour ends after breakfast.

Price Includes = Flight from Arusha to Zanzibar. Breakfast. Transport and accommodation. Permits.

Book Your Trip Here

As mentioned, there are 4 options for this trip. Each has a different deposit price as there are different things we need to book in advance. For example, for Rwanda/Uganda the permits for the gorillas are very expensive and need to be booked as soon as possible. So the deposit is higher.

Please note too that it is possible to add-on options at a later date if you can’t decide yet. However there is limited availability to each option. Moreover, all deposits are fully refundable up to 120 days prior to the start of the trip.

FAQs for the Tanzania Photography Workshop

What Style Trip is This?
This is an adventure class workshop. The reason for this being graded as an adventure class is due to the fact that we’re out in the wild for a lot of the trip. We’ll have comfortable accommodation every night, but there will be some bumpy roads in between.

Find out the difference in my trips here.

Is the Deposit Refundable?
Yes. The deposit is refundable up to 120 days before the tour’s start date. I do charge a 10% fee. You also have the option to move your deposit onto another trip or to keep on file as credit without a fee.

What’s a Single Supplement?
If you’re booking solo, you’ll be paired up with a roommate of the same gender as the pricing is based on double occupancy. However, if you’d like your own private single accommodation you can pay the single supplement. The cost of the single supplement will be determined closer to the tour date, but it’s generally around 100 euros per day.

When are Final Payments Due?
We send a request for final payments about 180 days before the tour’s start date. Final payments are due 120 days before the tour’s start date.

Tell me about the accommodation
The accommodation is a mostly safari lodges. They are comfortable, but often very “wild” feeling as we’re out in nature. Often, the rooms are often “glamping” set ups.
Guests are booked on a “twin share” basis and each room will have its own private toilet facilities.
The accommodation isn’t prestigious. However, the locations of the accommodation is unreal. Usually set close to a beautiful lake or on a hilltop with an incredible view.
The accommodation is comfortable enough to relax after days exploring.

And besides, who goes to Africa to spend time in their rooms?

Do I need a visa?
Most people will need a visa for Tanzania. It can be done online prior to arriving, or as of 2026 it is possible to do visa on arrival for some country’s citizens. For Uganda and Rwanda, you can do the visa online very easily as well.
