The Great Australian Photo Road Trip. Part 3: Perth to Melbourne

After completing part 1 of The Great Australian Photo Road Trip in April 2026, I am just supercharged by the idea of seeing more of this awesome country. The crazy thing about Australia is there are just so many destinations that few non-Australians know about. And there are so many photography locations that few non-Australians know about. It’s just one of those place it feels like you can just constantly be discovering and exploring.

The 2027 version of the trip will be from Darwin to Perth (you can read about that trip here). Then in 2028, we’ll be doing South Australia from Perth to Melbourne. This might be the section I’m most looking forward to. Check out the details below.

The Workshop Itinerary

The Australia trips are “fun” trips. They’re road trips. The goal is seeing as much as possible and finding some really cool and unique photos.

Obviously, we have a bit of an itinerary to follow. We’ll start in Perth, then cross inland past places like the Hyden Wave Rock. Then, we’ll head down to the beautiful Cape Le Grande. Afterwards, we’ll drive the longest straight road in Australia and end up at the Bunda Cliffs – which feels like the end of the world. Afterwards, we’ll see the Eyre Peninsula and places like Coffin Bay and the Watermelon Lake. Finally, we’ll pass Adelaide, cruises the Great Ocean Road, and reach Melbourne.

The itinerary’s goal is to find great landscapes, nature, and wildlife photography opportunities.

FAQs For the Australia Photography Tours

What Style Trip is This?

This is a scouting trip.
On scouting trips, we keep things flexible and we explore. These trips are as close as it gets to feeling what it’s like to be on a travel photography assignment. We don’t take a lot of downtime, and explore/photograph as much as we can.
Find out the difference in my trips here.

Is the Deposit Refundable?

Yes. The deposit is refundable up to 120 days before the tour’s start date. I do charge a 10% fee. You also have the option to move your deposit onto another trip or to keep on file as credit without a fee.

What’s a Single Supplement?

If you’re booking solo, you’ll be paired up with a roommate of the same gender as the pricing is based on double occupancy. However, if you’d like your own private single accommodation you can pay the single supplement.

When are Final Payments Due?

Final payments are due 180 days before the start of the trip – although payment plans are available. From 180 days to 120 days, you may still cancel with a 10% fee or transfer all funds onto a different trip.

What does the average day on tour look like?

Honestly, no two days will be the same. So it’s kind of hard to predict. However, I will say that we will be putting some time into making photos! Some days can be long, but there is usually downtime in the middle of the day to relax and catch up on sleep – or photo editing.
500-700am: Sunrise Photo Shoot
8am: Breakfast
9-11am: Location scouting / daytime photography / driving
noon-2pm: Lunch
2-5pm: Location Scouting / daytime photography / driving
5-7pm: Sunset Photography
7-830pm: Dinner
8:30-1030pm: Free time or night photography option in certain areas.
Obviously, most participants won’t be able to do everything (without exhausting themselves) so everything is optional.

How much driving will there be?

It’s a road trip, we’ll be doing some driving for sure. We’ll have a big van though, so it will be comfortable. The total drive is likely to be about 4000 kilometers. So, we can assume about 3 hours of driving a day! That said, it will be driving with a purpose. Stopping constantly to seek out photos.
There will be days that we do big drives, and there will be days we don’t drive much at all.
